ABOUT

Studio Russo, LLC was formed 1996, by Jon-Joseph Russo, artist, combining his education, Bachelor Fine Arts, Sculpture, 1983, Alfred U.,  Master Landscape Architecture, 1991, Cornell U., (Rome Architecture Program, 1990). His studies are encapsulated in his thesis topic “Italian Garden, Synthesis of Architecture and Art” and reinforced by numerous trips to study gardens and art in Italy and throughout the world.  His influences have mainly come from pre-industrialized cultures such as West African wood carving, visits to Easter Island, Inca, Aztec cities, Greek & Roman sites, and sculptors Michelangelo, Henry Moore, Isamu Noguchi. Thus an interdisciplinary approach formed to utilize clay, painting, sculpture integrated with architecture or landscape settings….hand made!

Since Jon-Joseph Russo moved to Washington, DC in 1992 he apprenticed two years with Raymond Kaskey, sculptor for the National Mall WWII Memorial. He became a master mould maker, and worked on six $100,000.+ nationally installed public sculpture commissions.  Highlights were winning a commission for a Madonna and Child statue in collaboration with the landscape architect for the Mary Garden at the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC in 2000, sold his stone furniture to a collector in S. Korea, and his solo sculpture exhibit at Arts Club, DC, 2021.

Since 2011 Jon-Joseph Russo has taught stone, plaster, clay sculpture, drawing, painting at Washington Studio School, Washington Waldorf School, Corcoran School of Art, Art League and privately in his studio.
